After Hours Administrator 3.0 adds
much additional functionality over previous versions
- AHA uses a custom service to run the program
at it's scheduled time. Because of the way the service is configured,
it is possible to log off the machine running AHA and it will still perform
it's scheduled tasks (of course the computer still needs to be running).
This makes it possible to run AHA on a server where you don't want to keep a
user logged in all the time.
- AHA 3.0 will report successes and errors
directly to selected ACT! users. Successful runs are reported as
Histories on the users "My Record", and errors are reported as Alarmed
To-Do's for the user.
- The permanent AHA log is now easily
accessible (both to view and print) from the AHA Configuration Utility. The
log page also displays the names of the last successful backups.
- If SMTP e-mail can be sent from the machine
running AHA, the selected ACT! user can be notified by email, should there
be any problems with the maintenance or backup. (note, this requires the My
Record for the user to have an E-mail address in the appropriate field).
In order for After
Hours Administrator 3.0 to run properly the following
conditions must be met.
- The computer running AHA must have Windows
NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP as it's operating system.
- The computer running AHA must have ACT!
installed on it and ACT! must have been run, at least once.
- The computer running AHA must be the same
computer on which the Database(s) are stored.
- ACT! must not be running on the machine
where AHA 3.0 runs (it is not a problem if other users on the network have
ACT! open)
- Backups must be stored on the same computer
as AHA is running.
These requirements are largely due to the way
the custom service that runs AHA must be configured. The After
Hours Administrator Users guide shows how to use Windows Task Scheduler to run
AHA without the service and thus circumvent many of these limitations.
After Hours Administrator 3.0 is distributed with a limited life span and must be registered (via phone or email) within 30 days of installation for it to continue to operate.
