Have you ever used ACT!'s Mini-Calendar? If your answer is "No" you are not alone. Carefully concealed in the ACT! View menu, the Mini-Calendar, is an easily missed feature with the potential to be a very useful tool for many ACT! users. The Mini-Calendar can be displayed from any view in ACT!, either by choosing View | Mini-Calendar from the ACT! menu or by pressing F4 on your keyboard. (Press F4 again to close the Mini-Calendar.) Choosing either the menu or the keyboard trigger causes the 3 month Mini-Calendar to pop up on your screen (Figure 1).
Figure 1. The Mini-Calendar (F4) "Sure it's cute" I hear you say, "but what good is it?". Let's say you want to know the date of the second Tuesday of next month. One way to view next month is to switch to the ACT! Calendar view, move to the next month and find the date (not too hard). But instead, you can press F4 and see next month already displayed to the right of the current month in the Mini-Calendar. Best of all didn't have to leave the current record to do this. Even if you are already in the ACT! Calendar window, the Mini-Calendar is handy for a quick "look back" or "look ahead" without having to leave the current month in the main calendar. "Is that all it can do?" you ask. On no, the Mini-Calendar is much more than it seems. If you Right-Click on any date in the Mini-Calendar you will display the list of tasks scheduled for that day (Figure 2).
Figure 2. Mini-Calendar Task List If you have completed a displayed task, a click in the check box next to the activity will clear the activity. If you wish to edit an activity you can double click the item in the list and display the Schedule Activity dialog for that item. Both of these actions can be accomplished without leaving the current view. Let's say you are working on one client's record when another client calls you and wants to reschedule a meeting you set up for next Tuesday. Instead of "looking up" that contact or displaying the calendar, you press F4, right click on next Tuesday, double click on the scheduled meeting, change the time and click OK. The meeting is rescheduled and you haven't left your current contact. (Wow... You ARE good!)
